Why remove the salt? Mostly for appearance.
However, if left in the carpet for a long time, it can do some damage to the backing. If coarse sodium chloride is used, and it is not completely dissolved, the gravel-like grit will cut carpet fibers as it is walked on. On most modern carpets, sodium chloride will not be very noticeable until it dries. Then most of it can be removed with routine dry vacuuming. If you have older carpet or some that doesn’t dry quickly, we can do the wet vacuuming.

Calcium chloride is another story. It is the common salt these days because it is more effective at below-zero temperatures. It does have a couple draw backs: It holds moisture keeping carpet, track-off mats, and hard surface floors wet and slippery. Also when it comes in contact with normal detergent solutions which may have been left in the carpeting from the previous cleaning, the salt converts to lime. This is almost completely insoluble in water.

That’s where we come in. Depending on weather conditions, it is recommended the calcium chloride be removed at least once per week. Our Deep Clean- Fast Dry procedure with a special rinse formula will remove water and soil with the salt. If carpet has significant residual shampoo detergents, it may take several extractions for complete lime removal.

What is the Winter Special?
For $49 we will do a salt rinse of up to 200 square feet in the entry, lobby, hallway, or waiting area where ice-melt is tracked in. Most of the salt usually comes off shoes within this space depending on your traffic patterns. If more area needs to be rinsed the discount rate will be 20 cents per square foot. One standard track-off mat will be cleaned on site at no charge per 200 square feet of salt cleaning. Extra mats can be cleaned for 30 cents per square foot.

$147 - Pay for three (3 weeks or less as needed) and we will do the fourth at no charge. This should take care of the first month for most small to medium traffic entries.

$441 - Pay for nine (6-8 weeks) and we’ll do two more at no charge. Plus when spring arrives (or before April 1, 2006), we will apply Teflon Advanced Carpet Protector to the area cleaned for FREE. (If you have commercial olefin, we will add an extra free rinse instead of the free Teflon.) More carpeted areas in your building can be scheduled for cleaning at that time also. Then you should be set for a few months!

Any other “Fine Print?” Not really. There are always a few unique situations that come up and some variables we didn’t think of. But let’s talk about it.  The main thing is to protect your investment and make a good first impression coming into your business.
